Cedars Social owner (and pop-up Bar 828 partner) Michael Martensen says cocktail bars are the hip new Dallas thing, according to Reuters' "The Spirited Traveler" column today. "Dallas is breaking into the foodie culture, and with them come the drinkers," he tells writer Kara Newman, who says Dallas has a "hotel on every corner" filled with "thirsty travellers." Naturally she mentions Dallas' reputation as the home of the frozen margarita and covers Texans' love of tequila:
"You'll find a Margarita on every restaurant menu in Dallas," says Martensen. "You'll also find a Tequila Sour on every menu," a sophisticated addition to the tequila drink canon.Martensen's recs for the best places to grab a drink in Dallas? Curiously, not a retro cocktail bar on the list, besides his own Cedars Social: Al Biernat's, Marquee Grill, Bailey's Prime Plus (where Martensen's future business partner and Dallas mixologist of note Eddie "Lucky" Campbell is master of fine boozing) and the Mansion on Turtle Creek.
