Smoke Takes Preemptive Action Against Adorable Plate Thieves

New, 4 comments

Welcome to Eater's latest feature, Shit People Steal, in which we ask restaurateurs what items in their restaurant have been (or are frequently) stolen.

The folks at Smoke in the Hotel Belmont are nothing if not good fun (have you seen their amazing leisure dive?) but they have to draw a line in the silliness sand somewhere, and that line is between your purse and their adorable animal plates. Chris Jeffers, Smoke co-owner, tells Eater:

"We've had an ongoing problem with customers stealing/accidentally putting our appetizer plates in their purses/bags. In an effort to solve the problem we've printed a new message on the bottom of our most recent order of plates. We know our little pink animal plates are cute, but quit taking them home!"
Are you a restaurant or bar owner with sticky-fingered patrons? E-mail us your story.
