Looks like Big D is getting some hot action in Beantown thanks to one Katie McLeod and the Boston Globe.
Boston.com printed her piece on visiting Dallas (and her twentysomething cousin) as well as her efforts to find out if this Lone Star city came with the televised expectations of big hair, roaming steer and the ubiquitous Courtney Kerr in every hotspot. But what of the culture, the cuisine and the Kardashian?
McLeod discusses style quite a bit, but there was something that made her stop focusing on wondering if she stuck out amidst all the sequined tank-tops:
I quickly stopped paying attention to style, though, when I tasted the food. While we ate everything from juicy burgers to tapas to Vietnamese, I drooled over the Mexican food. I had hoped to find an authentic Mexican restaurant and Javier’s, north of uptown, didn’t disappoint. She details the meal -- and the cake that caused her to "melt" -- before praising (we think?) the decor.
Brunch took McLeod and her relatives to Bread Winner's Cafe. While the displays of sweets and baked goods stopped the Bostonian in her drooly tracks, her meal inspired this reaction: "If I had planned a picnic of this scrumptious food in the middle of the Dallas Arboretum, it would have been a match made in heaven."
While the locations aren't necessarily shocking picks for tourists (and McLeod hits other cultural spots that pretty much classify her as such), the piece is a welcome, if innocuous, read -- especially given that to Dallasites, it always seems that the city is either painted in the plastic surgery-plastic people wash, or its gems are shouted over by bleach-tips like Guy Fieri.
At any rate, she does warn Khloe and Lamar they best get a cowboy hat.
