The Restaurant Formerly Known as Campo Reopens as Outpost American Tavern

Outpost American Tavern, the new concept from the partners behind Campo, quietly opened its doors this weekend on Beckley Avenue in Oak Cliff. Despite occupying the same old house-turned-restaurant, Outpost bears little resemblance to its predecessor: Gone are the bright white walls and airy feel of Campo, replaced by plenty of rustic wood and a darker, more cozy atmosphere, plus a patio outfitted with picnic tables. (Owners John Paul Valverde and Miguel Vicens also run design firm Coeval Studio and are responsible for the interiors of The Bowery, the freshly made-over Sunset Lounge, and Fort Worth's Hacienda San Miguel, amongst others.)

The menu offers even less similarities to CampO's: No offal-stuffed handmade pastas like the ones served at the chef-driven Campo—instead the focus is on more familiar comfort dishes like elotes, short ribs, fish tacos, and sandwiches, plus a bar program featuring classic cocktails and craft beers.
