Chicken Scratch Offers Southern Comfort In Oak Cliff

Chicken Scratch, brought to you by Christophers Jeffers and Zielke (Smoke, Bolsa), has officially opened, withstanding any early-in-the-week rain-away efforts by Mother Nature. Chef Tim Byres blackboard menu boasts from-scratch comforts like skillet-fried and rotisserie chicken in various presentations, as well as homey sides like collard greens, mashed potatoes and the like.

The restaurant is bright and cozy, combining a Southern diner vibe with that of Grandma's kitchen -- though our grandma kept her wooden swing out back. But the hits just keep coming out on the patio, shared with no-mixology bar The Foundry. There are patio games, a stage for bands and tons of seating (exposed and shaded) for the summer months to come.

We sent intrepid photographer Sara Kerens past the Trinity to Oak Cliff (which was totally rude of us what with the flash flood warnings, so we thank her) and she brought back some fantastic shots to make you feel like you've been Chicken Scratch-ing (if you didn't brave the opening night waters yourself).
