Southern Living honored the pits and butts with a special set of Barbecue Awards. Dallas got two big nods.
The magazine named Pecan Lodge as one of 20 top barbecue spots on a list of "The South's Best Butt," citing the joint's "killer pulled pork." The list also includes "'cue-pons" -- for Pecan Lodge, diners can bring in the June issue of Southern Living and get a free Tumbleweed cookie with the purchase of a pork sandwich.
Lockhart Smokehouse got its award thanks to Will Fleischman, who was named one of 10 of "South's bestpit masters" on the Smokin' Hot List.
Interestingly enough, both the hotspots list and the pitmaster profiles were written by former Dallas Observer critic Hanna Raskin.
