After more than 30 years of flipping what some call the best beef in Denton, Earl's, the grocery, liquor and burger joint off Highway 380 E, is set to close June 16 (Saturday).
Though their signature burgers, including the well-known Earl's Single, taste more like down home cooking than fast food grease, the owners of the retro yellow and red "stop and go" have sold their business to 7-Eleven despite booming business, according to employee Amber Hill.
It's not over, however. A new version of the place is scheduled to open in July in Denison, which is about an hour north of its current locale in Aubrey. Just make sure if you spend the gas money, you know what sign to look for: The name is transitioning as well.
That's right, Earl's is all grows up and adopting the name of Papa Earl's.
