Holey baked donut! Change is a brewin,' or rather, a bakin.'
There's a new sweet chief in town at independently owned donut shop Denton Square Donuts. The successful eatery, which offers a variety of baked donuts (Yes, that's baked not fried), launched in the fall of 2011. Bear Cahill, Jeremy Villeneuve and their wives, Monica and Kristen, were the owners and operators.
And business? Well, it boomed.
But, by April a message on the company's Facebook page announced a sudden decision to sell their baby biz. According to the post, the donut shop many have become a bit too successful, sucking up all Cahill and Villeneuve's time ... time they didn't have. In May, the shop sold.
New owner Jackie Strausz and her family, according to employee Emily Liberto, run the shop using a joint effort mentality.
So, what's changed?
The shop is open later ... a whole few hours later. "We just extended our hours until 9:00 p.m.," said Liberto. "It should hopefully stay consistent."
New shop additions include Monday morning instrumentals from Mr. Beard (He plays the violin) and new creations like the Strawberry and Cream donut and the PB&J donut, which is made with peanut butter chips, ground unsalted peanuts and locally concocted jelly. There's also a happy hour sugar high every day from 2:00-4:00 p.m. (Did someone say $1 donuts?!).
Will it continue to be successful? Maybe even do better? Only time and batter can tell.
Bake on and biz on, Denton Square Donuts.
