EscapeHatch Dallas's Mike Hiller calls Bishop Arts' eagerly awaited Boulevardier "the best restaurant to open in Dallas this year." Rumors circulated last November that Veritas Wine Room owners and brothers Brooks and Bradley Anderson were collaborating on a new Oak Cliff eatery with chefs Nathan Tate and Randall Copeland, both of Rockwall's Restaurant Ava. Originally planned under the name Left Bank, prior to a minor legal snaffu, the French-inspired bistro was rechristened and is slated for a soft opening this evening.

DMN critic Leslie Brenner has said that if the Dallas restaurant scene is in want of anything, it is the néo-bistrots "that have been making splashes in Paris and New York" which are like "like traditional French bistros in look and price, but offer more accomplished and intriguing cooking." Earlier this month, Brenner said she's hopeful Boulevardier fits the bill. In the same vein, Brooks Anderson has called Boulevardier an "American bistro with a soft French accent," and Hiller confirms that while "Boulevardier may be French at its soul ... there’s not a frite of stuffiness or snootiness (or expense) about it."
