Jack's Southern Comfort Food will open its doors October 1, according to a press release. The sorta-like-Eatzi's-but-with-a-Southern-drawl Lower Greenville spot is the newest venture from Scott Jones, the restaurateur behind Screen Door and Fort Worth's Cowtown Diner.
The full menu is posted on Jack's website, and it's undeniably Southern with some modern twists and Cajun influences—biscuit sandwiches (including a burger and a Cuban version), "Upside Down Pot Pies" (in brisket, crawfish and truffle mushroom varieties), gumbo, red beans and rice, and chicken and dumplings all make appearances. All the menu items will be available for takeout and there will also be a build-your-own casserole bar, plus a bakery with fried pies and puddings. Expect homey decor, including screen doors refashioned into menu boards.
