Is Uchi Expanding to Dallas? UPDATED

UPDATE: Uchi PR confirms that a Dallas location is being planned, but that it will not open "for at least a year" or longer.

Can it be true? According to a CraveDFW correspondent who dined at Uchi in Austin over the weekend, an Uchi manager says they'll be opening a Dallas branch in "six to eight months".

The modern Japanese restaurant opened in Austin in 2003 and garnered attention from critics across the nation; chef and owner Tyson Cole has won numerous awards for his cooking at Uchi including a 2011 James Beard Award for "Best Chef, Southwest". Top Chef winner Paul Qui rose through the ranks at Uchi before being named executive chef at spinoff Uchiko, which opened in 2010. A Houston branch of Uchi opened in February and has been the recipient of overwhelming praise from diners and critics alike.
