Urban Taco has jumped on the cronut(ish) bandwagon with a new creation it has coined the "churrnut." (That's churro plus doughnut, obviously.)
Despite the somewhat strange-sounding name, the churrnut actually looks pretty delicious. D's Carol Shih got a sneak peek at the new hybrid pastry, and explains a churrnut's anatomy as follows:
· "Churro-like, crusty exterior with cinnamon and sugar"
· "Chocolate abuelita [traditional Mexican chocolate] and caramel sauce drizzled on top"
· "Soft, doughy inside with a house-made cajeta filling"
The creation will be unveiled at tomorrow night's taco and beer pairing dinner at Urban Taco on McKinney Avenue; of course, if you only have eyes for churrnuts, it will be available on the menu beginning Monday, October 7. (And in case you were wondering, yes, New Yorkers are still scalping cronuts on Craigslist.)
