Flying Horse Cafe and Full City Rooster Get Brewing

Caffeine fiends, take note of two new options in town:

1) A new "coffee roasting studio" has popped up in The Cedars and will celebrate its grand opening this Saturday. Full City Rooster focuses on single-origin beans sourced from "socially responsible farms" that are organic, fair-trade and "bird-friendly"; it's also the first roaster in Texas to use "the environmentally responsible Loring roaster." Check out their grand opening between 3-6 p.m. this Saturday at 1810 S. Akard Street for art, music, tastings, and a tour of the studio. FCR will offer both retail and wholesale beans. [Eaterwire]

2) The spot at the Magnolia Hotel downtown vacated by Starbucks back in January has finally been filled by a new coffee purveyor called Flying Horse Cafe. The manager is a holdover from the green mermaid days, and besides all the usual coffee suspects including "Frappuccino-type drinks" it offers cold-brew coffee, fresh orange juice and soon, cold pressed juices. Beans and baked goods (including all-butter croissants) are sourced from California. [CultureMap]
