Whoa: Morning News critic Leslie Brenner is reporting that "Tim Byres and his partners at Smoke, Christopher Jeffers and Christopher Zielke, have taken over the Outpost American Tavern in Oak Cliff" as of November 1.
Outpost, of course, is the casual gastropubby concept from Coeval Studio's John Paul Valverde and Miguel Vicens that replaced Campo, which got much love from critics but wasn't long for this world after opening chef Matt McCallister departed.
According to Brenner, Byres and fellow Smoke-r Lance Smith will run the kitchen together; they're currently working on a new menu that their publicist says will be "a little more feminine than Smoke." Expect that to debut "in about two weeks." (This, of course, will make three restaurants for Byres, all in Oak Cliff: Smoke, Chicken Scratch, and now Outpost.)
