Say It Ain't So: The Pearl Cup on Henderson is Vacating

Beloved indie coffee shop The Pearl Cup is giving up its prized Henderson Avenue space. While many folks' initial reaction to this news will probably be somewhere along the lines of "NOOOOO!!!," there is some (?) good news: The spot is being taken over by Austin export/"third wave" coffee shop Houndstooth Coffee rather than a drugstore or something corporate of that nature.

Teresa Gubbins reports that The Pearl Cup's lease is up at the end of December, and Houndstooth plans to open in the space come spring. Houndstooth initially launched in Austin in 2010 and now has two locations there; it was announced way back in November 2012 that it was planning to open a location in Lakewood but that never came to fruition.

But more importantly: What will become of The Pearl Cup? According to Gubbins, the owners have "other plans" for the coffee shop's expansion that they're keeping mum on for now. Of course, the Henderson Avenue location isn't the only place to get your Pearl Latte fix — there's also a Richardson location and a mini-cafe downtown on St. Paul Street. Gubbins also notes that the Pearl Cup has also "expressed their intent to open a location at Sylvan | Thirty, the mixed-use development in West Dallas" that's currently under construction.
