The Lot, the fresh reincarnation of the former Backyard Beach Bar space in East Dallas, debuts next Monday with an expansive outdoor space (including play areas for kids and adults, a screened-in area for private parties, an additional small bar, and a stage), a bar area with bar-height banquettes and a lounge area with a fireplace, and a large dining room with booths and mismatched wooden chairs. Rustic wood throughout and plenty of skylights, as well as glass garage doors that separate the bar and dining room, give the space an airy, open-to-the-outdoors feel.
The menu, of course, was designed by chef and consultant-about-town Sharon Hage and features everything from buffalo-style bison meatballs and a burger with ham, cheddar, and red chile sauce to gluten-free biscuits and fried cauliflower. The beer menu is extensive but looks to feature only a couple of local selections from Franconia and Lakewood Brewing; a highlight from the cocktail list is the option to add a spirit (vodka, rum, gin, or bourbon) to any of the vibrantly colored house fresh-pressed juices — think carrot, celery, and beet. Cocktails as health food? Perhaps this is a concept East Dallas residents can get behind.
