In an interview last month, Cane Rosso head honcho Jay Jerrier mentioned that he and a friend purchased a New York-style deck oven and had been experimenting with it in the Cane Rosso kitchen; though that particular style of pie was "just not appropriate" for the Neapolitan-focused Cane Rosso, Jerrier said he "may be interested in doing a New York-style location" if he could find the proper space.
Now word comes via SideDish that the New York pizza joint has a name — Zoli's New York Pizza Tavern — if not a confirmed location just yet. D Magazine editor Tim Rogers grilled Jerrier for information and discovered that the prime candidate "is an 1,800-square-foot spot in Oak Cliff", though no lease has been signed yet.
And yes, there will be ranch dressing; Rogers relays the information that Zoli's will offer "a pie called the CBR, for chicken, bacon, and, yes, ranch." Zoli's Facebook page offers plenty of food porn, including photos of a chicken parm pizza, "Grandma" style pies, stuffed slices, and some crazy good-looking Nutella banana rolls.
Cane Rosso's second location near White Rock Lake is slated to open sometime this spring — likely in April, by Jerrier's estimate.
