With what is arguably the wordiest headline of the day, Leslie Brenner laments the current state of the city's Italian food. Ristorante Nicola, Cibus, La Fiorentina, and D'Carlo have all closed in the past six months, and Brenner blames the genericization of their cuisine for their downfall, nothing that a "sure sign that an Italian restaurant is moving in the wrong direction" is when items like steaks and Caesar salad start appearing on the menu. She remains a huge fan of Lucia and Nonna, but says she was "sorely disappointed" on a recent Cane Rosso visit. [Eats Blog]
