UPDATE: Pop Diner is (softly) open as of 11 a.m. Thursday; the full menu is available and the bar is up and running, though staffers say carryout food won't be available until sometime next week.
For many months, Uptowners have awaited the day that Pop Diner would finally open its doors. While the West Village certainly has plenty of dining options, finding a decent bite to eat after last call can be a difficult task indeed—but with a 24-hour diner on the horizon, that game's about to change.
Thrillist got a sneak preview of the full menu, and it's got most of what you'd expect from a diner menu — pancakes, biscuits and gravy, omelettes, chicken-fried steak — plus a few things you might not, like "Naanis", pitas split and stuffed with chicken or gyro meat, lettuce, cheese, and sauce, and "Coney Tacos", with ground beef, chili, and the usual taco toppings stuffed inside a hot dog bun. There's also soups, salads, sandwiches, and an In-N-Out Double Double-esque burger called "The Imitator"; breakfast is served all day, naturally.
According to Thrillist, the full bar will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. "slinging classics plus house specials like Pop Rocks-laden martinis and adult milkshakes". Expect Pop Diner to open any day now.
