Details are firming up for this weekend's first ever North Texas Taco Festival, scheduled to go down Saturday afternoon in Deep Ellum, because is there another way you'd rather celebrate 4/20?
Besides plenty of tacos and other fare from various restaurants including El Tizoncito, Velvet Taco, Revolver Taco Lounge, Taco Party, and La Nueva Fresh & Hot, there will also be a taco battle at the Curtain Club at 12:30 p.m. between chefs Patton Robertson of Five-Sixty, Shana Croft of Hannah's off the Square in Denton, Omar Flores of Driftwood, and The Grape's Brian Luscher. A star-studded judging panel will include TxMo barbecue editor Daniel Vaughn and pizza master Jay Jerrier.
The monthly Deep Ellum Outdoor Market will also be held simultaneously with 40-plus vendors, clearly making Deep Ellum the place to be this weekend. The Taco Festival kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday and goes till 5 p.m. on the 2800 block of Main Street between Malcolm X and Crowdus; attendance is free but bring cash money for tacos.
