The relative food desert that is downtown has a new dining option as of today: The Hospitality Sweet made its debut this morning inside the historic U.S. Post Office that is now a modern apartment building at the corner of North Ervay and Bryan streets. For now the pastel-hued eatery is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday (sorry, downtown dwellers — your dearth of weekend options continues for now) with breakfast, lunch, and plenty of housemade baked goods like cake pops, French macarons, cupcakes, and brownies.
Early morning options include coffee drinks by a barista who hails from Crooked Tree Coffeehouse, pecan sticky rolls, various scones and muffins, including gluten-free varieties, caramelized French toast with berries, and a daily strata variety (an egg dish similar to a quiche or frittata). Everything on the lunch menu comes in under $10; sandwiches include a chicken Caesar with bacon and arugula on ciabatta; a barbecue brisket panini with cheddar, slaw and caramelized onions; and a sweet-and-savory brie panini with candied pecans. Several salad options include a classics like creamy chicken salad over greens and a Cobb, plus a spinach salad with strawberries, feta and walnuts and one with roasted butternut squash, pears and pecans.
Owner Meghan Adams also has a pint-sized coffee and pastry bar called London Cafe inside the Timothy Oulton furniture store in the Knox-Henderson area.
