Downtown Plano is Getting a Legit Coffee Shop

Downtown Plano will soon have a much-needed niche filled with the opening of Fourteen Eighteen Coffeehouse. Owner Melissa Owen left the medical field after "working in an operating room all [her] life" to pursue her caffeinated dreams of owning a coffee shop. Melissa says she and her husband Gerry have always shared an obsession with coffee, and even spent their honeymoon in Seattle soaking up the city's coffee culture. After spending some time in New Haven, Connecticut shadowing at a well-known coffee house near Yale University, she returned to DFW and decided to take the plunge; she and Gerry knew they wanted to open in downtown Plano because of a severe lack of coffee shops there, and after a year and a half of scouting locations they eventually found a spot on Avenue K.

Fourteen Eighteen will feature a fancy La Marzocco espresso machine (similar to the ones used at Oddfellows and Origin Natural Food) and beans from Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters; the Owens are currently in the process of staffing the shop with experienced baristas who know their stuff, and plan to open the doors in mid-July (aka prime iced coffee season).
