Oak Cliff Has a New Coffee Shop of a Different Breed

New, 2 comments

If you're a frequent coffee drinker around these parts, it's highly likely you've sipped some brewed from beans by Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters. Their beans are sold at several local stores — including Whole Foods and Central Market — and brewed at dozens of coffee shops and restaurants from Crooked Tree and Oak Lawn Coffee to Lucia and the Meddlesome Moth.

Now caffeine addicts can go straight to the source, as they've launched their very own cafe in Oak Cliff. Don't expect it to be anything like your neighborhood Starbucks, though — for one thing, there's no wi-fi, and secondly, "No paper cups will be involved." While that may prove mighty inconvenient for morning commuters (or any who lacks the ten minutes or so of downtime to sit around sipping espresso out of a real cup), according to Oak Cliff People the cafe does have ceramic travel mugs for sale.

What they lack in to-go cups, they certainly more than make up for with brewing technology: In addition to the popular La Marzocco, behind the bar you'll also find an Alpha Dominche Steampunk machine, reportedly the first of its kind in the city and described as "an air press meets a siphon meets an espresso machine."

The cafe will also feature pastries by nearby Rush Patisserie and Panaderia Vera. OCCR is open 7 a.m.-11 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday (closed Sundays).
