Frozen custard and hot dog purveyor Wild About Harry's has snapped up a space at the corner of Hall and Commerce streets.
According to owner Harry Coley, they intend to use the 1700 square foot Deep Ellum space, formerly home to now-defunct Theo's Diner and currently under renovation, to operate their wholesale custard and catering businesses, but it will also function as a sit-down restaurant serving the same frozen custard and hot dogs that has gained the Knox location legions of loyal fans since it opened back in 1996. They may also install a walk-up or drive-through window, though nothing is set in stone just yet.
The building's exterior has just gotten a splash of Harry's signature bright pink paint, although there's no giant anthropomorphized hot dog in sight (yet). Coley says they hope to be open by the time the nearby 2013 State Fair of Texas kicks off (September 27), but should almost definitely be up and running before the fair comes to an end.
First donuts, now ice cream? Deep Ellum residents may never have to leave the neighborhood in search of food again.
