That was quick: SideDish broke the story last week that Monkey King Noodle Co. was taking over the old Santiago's Taco Loco Express on Main Street in Deep Ellum, and as of today they're already open (well, "sorta open," according to the sign) serving a limited menu of dumplings, wontons and hand-made noodle soup. (And when we say hand-made, we mean you can watch a skilled noodle maker pulling and smacking the dough against the counter right there through the front window).
Word from the friendly woman running the register is that Monkey King hopes to launch a food truck soon, with the Deep Ellum stand functioning as a sort of commissary kitchen for the truck.
Monkey King is using this preliminary launch as a way to feel out the market and get feedback from customers; if you stop by to get your soup dumpling on, be sure to tell the Monkey King team that late-night hours would be a hit in the neighborhood.
