While many folks are no doubt still mourning the recent closing of The Pearl Cup on Henderson Avenue, most will probably be pleased that the space is evolving into a new place to get a buzz: Austin export Houndstooth Coffee is currently renovating the space and plans to launch sometime in the spring.
Houndstooth owner Sean Henry recently launched his own Dallas roastery and line of whole bean coffees called, appropriately, TWEED. According to a press release, the shop will offer "a carefully curated coffee selection, including the likes of Counter Culture Coffee, Madcap Coffee and TWEED. At least two espresso options and three brewed-by-the-cup coffees are offered on any given day, rotating based on stock, taste and season." There will also be a small selection of pastries (though the release doesn't mention whether they'll be housemade or obtained from a local purveyor), as well as a few craft beer and wine offerings "for those seeking a different kind of buzz."
The release says Houndstooth will set itself apart from the competition through its baristas, all of whom are professionally trained, and the order process, in which said baristas help tailor each drink to suit the customer's tastes. The interior is courtesy of local design firm RAD (Response Able Design) and "will be crisp and clean with bold accent colors and natural features" and plenty of natural light.
