HopChef Hits Trinity Groves; Strangeways Loves Sour Beers

High-stakes beer pairing competition; sour beer week; local chefs cook for a cause.

TRINITY GROVES—Brewery Ommegang's HopChef competition will hit Dallas for the first time on November 3 at 6:30 p.m. at event space 3015 at Trinity Groves. Half a dozen local chefs including Meddlesome Moth's David McMillan and Blind Butcher's Oliver Sitrin will create dishes to pair with Ommegang beers; party attendees will vote for their favorite dish (and the winner will snag a pretty sweet prize package including a feature in Saveur). $60 tickets include food, beer and a commemorative glass. EAST DALLAS—Attention sour beer devotees: From October 21 through 26 Strangeways will host Super Sour Power Week, when they'll have a whopping 35 different sour beers on tap including selections from Lakewood, Real Ale, Jester King, New Belgium, Boulevard, Epic, and more. EAST DALLAS—Nonprofit group the Dallas 24 Hour Club, which provides transitional sober living for recovering addicts, will host an outdoor benefit event on October 19 starting at 5:30 p.m.; participating chefs include Matt McCallister, Dude Sweet's Katherine Clapner, Cafe Momentum's Justin Box and pastry chef David Collier of Spoon and Knife.
