Two industry vets are preparing to open a new venture at the corner of Preston and Forest: Restaurateur Michael Cox (the former CEO of MCrowd, the restaurant group behind Dallas mainstay Mi Cocina) has installed chef Kelly Hightower (Wild Salsa, Nova, Kavala, et al) in the kitchen at his new OSO Food & Wine, slated to open its doors on Thursday night.
Word on the street is that OSO's food will be "loosely" Mediterranean, and the restaurant describes itself as "a friendly neighborhood bistro." While no menu has been released just yet, there's plenty of food porn to be found on the restaurant's Facebook page. With no descriptions, some of the items are difficult to identify, but there will definitely be hummus, pita, and kofte (ground meat on a stick) in the mix; other photos depict whole roasted fish, smoked salmon, an enormous breaded chop of unknown animal origin, fried orbs that may or may not be falafel, and a tasty-looking Bibb salad. ("Oso" means bear in Spanish, but don't expect any grizzly on the menu.)
Escape Hatch blogger Mike Hiller reports that OSO has "just 20 tables and a handful of bar seats," but they are taking reservations via Yelp.
