Here's What The Cedars' Future Alamo Drafthouse Will Look Like

Two patios, lots of beer, and skyline views.

The burgeoning neighborhood just south of downtown known as The Cedars will get way more awesome next year when Austin-based Alamo Drafthouse opens its second DFW location there. The theatre has just released renderings of the upcoming movie mecca, and they look pretty sweet: Unlike the single-story outpost in Richardson, this Drafthouse will encompass two floors and include an upper-level Taproom with not one but two patios and skyline views. The bar will showcase 32 craft beers on tap, wine, and craft cocktails alongside Drafthouse's menu of scratch-made food.

The back patio will feature a gigantic 4k projection screen for movies, private karaoke rooms, and a stage for live music. As far as the movie theatre part of the equation goes, there will be 8 screens and around 1,000 seats.

The Austin-based chain is known for its unique programming that features events like quote-alongs, cult classic screenings, and dance parties along with major blockbusters. In addition to the Richardson location and the upcoming Cedars location, there will also be a third location in Las Colinas's upcoming Music Factory development.

The Cedars location will celebrate groundbreaking on Saturday, November 8 with a free outdoor screening of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The movie begins at sundown and there will also be food trucks, local beer, and wine; it's kid- and pet-friendly, but don't forget to BYOC (bring your own chair).
