Uber Wants to Deliver You Lunch Today, Tim Byres-Style

Uber and Smoke are teaming up for a one-day-only promotion for a charitable cause.

Keep your eyes peeled for the "Lunch" option this afternoon.

Uber is known mostly for delivering drunk people safely to their destinations, but from time to time the extremely popular on-demand car service also delivers other things like Christmas trees and ice cream. Today, they're teaming up with Tim Byres and his acclaimed Oak Cliff restaurant Smoke to deliver something else entirely: lunch.

Today only between 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Uber will deliver $12 Smoke-made lunches to folks in Dallas proper. The meals will consist of a grilled hanger steak and arugula salad with pecan pesto, celery, and lemon, along with two cookies: chocolate-cherry chip and peanut butter. The best part? They promise delivery within 10 minutes, and it's for a very good cause: every dollar goes to nonprofit group No Kid Hungry.

To order, just fire up the Uber app within the designated time period and select the lunch option at the bottom. (Oh, and you can request up to 10 lunches if you want to be the office hero.) An Uber rep warns that demand will be high, so hungry people may have to be persistent.
