Another grilled cheese restaurant is headed this way. Cincinnati-born fast-casual chain Tom + Chee is slated to open its first Texas location at Richardson's upcoming CityLine, the massive mixed-use development near Central Expressway and the George Bush Turnpike that will also be home to a LOOK Cinemas, an Aloft hotel, a Jasper's, and a Coal Vines (amongst other things). In case you haven't already guessed from the name, Tom + Chee's menu is based around the time-honored pairing of grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. (And despite that pesky plus sign, it's definitely pronounced "tom and chee.")
The restaurant, which originally began as a food tent and embarked on a massive franchising mission after appearing on NBC's Shark Tank last year, touts itself as being the "home of the grilled cheese donut," which comes in several different wacky-sounding varieties including the Bananarama (caramelized bananas and gouda) and Blueberry Blue (blueberry compote, blue cheese, and lemon mascarpone). The faint of heart can opt for a more simple version with plain ol' cheddar.
There are regular sandwiches, too; diners can pick from varieties like the namesake Tom+Chee with cheddar, mozz, tomatoes, and garlic seasoning on sourdough, or build-their-own from four different bread options — including gluten-free — and nearly a dozen cheeses; there's even a vegan option. Other acoutrements include cherry peppers, pickles, hummus, pesto, fried onions, and even potato chips, which can be added onto any sandwich for an extra crunch factor. Tomato soup comes in three different varieties: classic, creamy tomato basil, and chunky tomato basil, and additional soups will be available on a rotating basis. (Scope out the full menu below.)
Look for Tom + Chee to open in May 2015. Also just announced for the CityLine development is Edoko Sushi & Robata, which has an existing location in Frisco; that won't open until spring 2016.
