Chef Randall Warder opened Clark Food & Wine Co. back in October with a menu of shareable plates like flatbreads and "things in jars" (think rillettes and smoked catfish dip), and judging by the crowds you'll find packed into the narrow space on any given night, it's been a welcome addition to the rapidly-burgeoning stretch of Lowest Greenville. Warder's got another project in the works right next door, too: The more casual C'Viche Tequila Bar will debut later this winter with a variety of ceviche preparations and cocktails such as margaritas and Pisco Sours.
Where does Warder eat when he's not operating one restaurant or working on the next? Read on to find out.
Favorite breakfast or brunch place?
Coffee House Café in Far North Dallas for migas and lots of espresso.
Where do you go for a quick lunch?
Tacos La Banqueta Puro DF in the gas station on Gaston near Garland Road for the suadero tacos.
Where and what do you eat after you get off work late?
Mostly at home, but DaLat is a great option as is Velvet Taco.
Where do you like to drink, and what do you usually order?
Pretty much anywhere that offers a "fresh bar." Victor Tangos is great, as is HG Sply Co., or Katy Trail Ice House in Plano for a beer not too far from home.
Best fancy date night destination?
Fearing's. Where else?
What’s your favorite pizza place?
Urban Crust in Plano.
Do you have a favorite burger in town?
I think Hopdoddy does an awesome burger and provides the right balance of quality and value, but there are so many different burger experiences in Dallas including the classics like Keller's Drive-in that have delivered for many years.
Best ethnic restaurant(s)?
Pho Apple in Plano, Pho is For Lovers, or DaLat for Vietnamese. For sushi, Sushi Sake in Richardson. Velvet Taco and a score or more of other taco places. And I have to give a nod to my neighbor Matt at Nora who cooks up some great Meditterranean cuisine. Also, Ramen Hakata in Addison has awesome ramen!
Any hidden gems or hole-in-the-walls you swear by?
Dairy-Ette on Ferguson Road for a double cheeseburger and of course their homemade root beer. Pho Mac in Plano for their beef and tripe pho.
Any other favorite restaurants elsewhere in the U.S.?
Walrus & Carpenter in Seattle is amazing. Also Locando Verde in New York, Flour & Water in San Francisco, Uchi in Austin and Houston, Lambert’s in Austin, Cochon in New Orleans.
