Bishop Arts barbecue mecca Lockhart Smokehouse has finally debuted its long-awaited first expansion location on downtown Plano's East 15th Street, in a space that was once occupied by an antique mall.
Like the original, the brand new Lockhart outpost has an order-at-the-counter setup, with additional seating on an upstairs level to accommodate what will surely be bustling lunch and dinner crowds. Expect all the usual barbecue staples like brisket, the beloved shoulder clod, sausages from Kreuz Market, smoked turkey and more, plus no shortage of craft beer.
According to the DMN's Sarah Blaskovich, pitmaster Will Fleischman is currently overseeing the smoker at the new location, so expect some damn fine barbecue — although according to Twitter, they "were hoping to keep [the opening] a little quieter" to give them more time for testing, so maybe don't invite everyone in the office for lunch.
Downtown Plano, once a rather sleepy district known more for antique shopping than dining, has gentrified quite a bit in the past several years with restaurants and bars like Urban Crust and Vickery Park joining long-timers such as Jorg's Cafe Vienna; more recent additions include the brick-and-mortar version of the Cajun Tailgators food truck and the much-needed Fourteen Eighteen Coffeehouse.
