Society Bakery Isn't Just For Cupcakes Anymore

If your last trip down Lower Greenville Avenue left you wondering where the hell ever-popular cupcake and cookie purveyor Society Bakery has gone to, never fear: The bakery reopened its doors a little further up the street just before year's end. Now located right next door to Green Grocer, the cheery red space is twice the size of its previous location next to Corner Market and has allowed the bakery to expand its offerings in a major way. In addition to their award-winning cupcakes and pastries, Society Bakery has launched breakfast and lunch and is also baking up a few new sugary delights (rumor has it that there's a Nutella croissant in the works.)

Scones, banana nut bread, and creamy quiche nestled in puff pastry are all new to the breakfast menu. There's also bagels, toast with unsalted European butter or local jam, cinnamon sugar toast (which owner Roshi Muns says she makes every morning for her son), or Greek yogurt with housemade granola.

Lunch is served from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and includes homey options like chicken pot pie, salad and sandwiches (think classic cafe offerings like chicken salad and toasted pimento cheese). The soup selection will rotate, but recently they've been cooking up green chile chicken pozole and leek and potato soup.

New sweet treats include a coconut tart (similar to a coconut cream pie), banana cream tart, and pecan pie. Society Bakery also brews Cuvée coffee and offers free samples galore, making it ideal for a pop-in next time you're schlepping the ol' Avenue. Follow the bakery on Facebook for daily specials (free dessert with purchase of a lunch item has been a frequent offering as of late).
