Food & Wine has just announced its 2014 Best New Chef class, and local boy Matt McCallister of FT33 made the cut.
As Eater National points out, "unlike in previous years when they have announced them via riddles on editor Dana Cowin's Twitter feed," this time around the winners were revealed with a series of selfies posted to Instagram. (How very 2014.)
The class of 10 also includes fellow Texans Paul Qui from Austin and Justin Yu from Houston's Oxheart. Recall that last year McCallister won F&W's People's Best New Chef award for the Southwest region, which is decided by an online voting system; he's in the running for the same crowd-sourced award this year along with Belly & Trumpet's Brian Zenner and Driftwood's Omar Flores (voting ended yesterday and winners will be announced tomorrow).
