Pera Turkish Kitchen of Far North Dallas is taking its show on the road — about three miles down the street, to be exact. A spin-off called Pera Wine & Tapas is currently staffing up to debut soon on Beltline Road near Preston, in a freestanding building that was once occupied by a Taco Bueno and has since housed several other concepts including Fish on Fire, 12 Burgers and Judy's Burgers & Shake (yes, just one shake to go with those ill-fated burgers).
The Pera Wine & Tapas website doesn't offer much insight on the menu just yet, but does mention that chef-owner Habip Kargin — who opened his first restaurant in Turkey in 1999 and cooked in New York before moving to Dallas to open Pera in 2012 — has plans to "share his love for new flavors and creativity beyond Turkish cuisine."
Pera Turkish Kitchen has been praised by D Mag (Leslie Brenner was slightly less enthusiastic about it, awarding two stars) and proclaimed one of Dallas' "most interesting restaurants" by the Observer. Don't get too excited by the handsome dining room depicted on the official website, though; that image appears to be a mere placeholder pulled from the website of a NYC hotel bar called LOCL. Eater has reached out to Chef Habip for further info on his new tapas spot, so stay tuned for further info.
