At long last, signs of life at the (hopefully) soon-to-open Wild About Harry's location in Deep Ellum. The building at the corner of Hall and Commerce streets was once occupied by Theo's Diner but has been vacant for a few years now; the Knox Street hot dog and frozen custard purveyor revealed plans to take over the space last fall but ran up against several delays. Now, a peek inside the window reveals that the space is coming along, and while it looks like there's still plenty to be done on the finish out, there's also frozen custard equipment now in place — and perhaps most importantly, there's now a doppelganger of Harry's signature hot dog statue that stands guard outside the original location (which is either delightful or slightly terrifying, depending on your point of view).
The latest estimate from Wild About Harry's HQ projected a "mid-summer" opening; whether they meet the deadline or not, Deep Ellum will certainly welcome its new neighbor with open arms, especially given the current face-melting temperatures.
