Where Andrew Bell Eats When He's Not Cooking at Bolsa

Chef Andrew Bell has worked for some of the most recognizable names in Dallas restaurant history, including Aurora, Parigi and The Mansion on Turtle Creek (not to mention Uchi in Austin), and since taking over the kitchen at Bolsa late last year, he's carrying the farm-to-table torch that's made it a neighborhood institution since 2008.

Bell, like most of the city's hard-working chefs, spends the majority of his time in the kitchen at his restaurant, but with a new baby at home, he also does his fair share of cooking at home. (Shout out to Bell's girlfriend — he promises to take you on a real date soon. Really.) Here's where Andrew Bell eats when he's not plating up dishes like elotes-stuffed quail and venison tartare at Bolsa:

Where do you go for a quick lunch? For a quick lunch, tacos are always good with me. Sometimes I make them at home with my girlfriend and our little girl, or head to El Si Hay [right across the street from Bolsa] or La Paisanita.

Where/what do you eat after you get off work late? My girlfriend and I have a six month old little girl and I work nights, so almost every night is late-night snacking. We eat at home a ton. I will make us something to eat when I get home. Home is my favorite place for late night dining.

Where do you like to drink, and what do you usually order there? We're back to the working thing. I work a lot, so I might grab a cocktail at work before I head home. Something with gin or tequila.

Favorite breakfast or brunch place? If I didn't work at Bolsa, I would go for brunch. If I'm with a large group then Breadwinners always delivers. If I am by myself — ha, never — then El Jordan Cafe [in Bishop Arts].

Best date night destination? My girlfriend and I are very much looking forward to a date night soon. We want to go to Gemma or Casa Rubia. Soon baby, soon I'll take you on a date with dinner and dancing!

What's your favorite pizza place? Bolsa for flatbreads, I eat a few of them a week. Fireside Pies is another one of my favorites.

Do you have a favorite burger in town? We don't eat a bunch of burgers, but when I do, I prefer the thin, old-style cooked on the flat top. I like Keller's or Dairy-Ette.
