Abandoned North Dallas Sonic Will Transform Into Spork

New, 1 comment

A former Sonic in Far North Dallas will get a new lease on life when it transforms into a new concept called Spork (and no, cutlery moniker-loving chef John Tesar is not involved).

Leslie Brenner reports that chef Eric Justice, formerly of Mexican Sugar in the Shops at Legacy, is joining forces with an impressive team that includes the Smoke trio (Tim Byres, Christopher Jeffers and Christopher Zielke) and Pie 3.14 owner and former Whiskey Cake barman Sean Conner to revamp a defunct drive-in at Preston and Frankford into a casual, family-friendly restaurant featuring "burgers, salads, sandwiches [and] tacos."

Burgers will be house-ground and patrons will be able to build their own with ingredients like tarragon remoulade, Hatch green chiles and a variety of cheeses. Conner will head up the bar program, which sounds like it'll feature draft cocktails and maybe, just maybe, the illustrious Sonic ice. In keeping with Sonic traditions, there will also be shakes, malts and floats. Look for Spork to open in late November or December, says Brenner.
