The ginormous space abandoned by The Mecca will soon have a new tenant.

Good news for Lakewood: Breakfast and late-night staple Buzzbrews is bringing its delicious griddle toast to the neighborhood. A rep for the local mini-chain, which currently has three locations (Fitzhugh, Lemmon Avenue and Deep Ellum), sends word that they've signed a lease at 5815 Live Oak Street, AKA the giant space formerly occupied by diner legend The Mecca. They intend to begin renovations next week, with an opening date slated for "after the first of the year."

The former home of Molly Maguire's and Tipperary Inn proved to be too big and too expensive for The Mecca; the 76-year-old institution called it quits in April after less than two years in the space.
