Good news for beer lovers who frequent the West Village: Construction progress at SoCal export Public School 214 is coming right along, with an opening slated for the end of January at the pricey 3700M residential building. Despite its name, it's not a center for higher learning but rather a gastropub, though there will be subtle school-themed elements like a happy hour referred to as "recess," beer and cocktail classes offered several times a year, and art installations utilizing old school supplies (your seventh-grade protractor never looked so cool).

Some of the menu items will also be vaguely reminiscent of things you may have eaten in your grade school days, albeit with modern, cheffy touches: Think bacon-cheddar tater tots with sriracha ketchup, chorizo mac and cheese with a crunchy topping, and for dessert, a Nutella cookie ice cream sandwich. (Scope out the full menu below.)

As far as beverages, expect 24 craft beers on tap — at least half of which will be rotators or seasonal — keg wine, and specialty cocktails made with ingredients like fresh juices and housemade bitters.

UPDATE: Public School 214 has announced its official opening date as January 29. A second DFW location has also just been announced for Addison; it will be named, aptly, Public School 972 and will be located at 14854 Montfort Road in the old Mi Piaci space.
