Some of the best bars in Dallas are the most clandestine ones (see: the signless Black Swan Saloon), and apparently one such drinking den exists inside recent McKinney Avenue addition Henry's Majestic.
According to Dallas Morning News cocktail maven Marc Ramirez, Atwater Alley is "a cozy, two-story den falling somewhere between modern Victorian and Old West saloon" that's located behind the restaurant's kitchen. It's reigned over by beverage director Alex Fletcher (formerly of Victor Tangos and The People's Last Stand), who is of course responsible for Henry's Majestic's creative drink menu that includes selections like a nitrous-charged Vietnamese coffee cocktail. Fletcher tells Ramirez he thinks the space's upstairs back bar "was actually shipped in from the Old Absinthe House in New Orleans," a historic Bourbon Street watering hole known for serving up old-school drinks like the Ramos Gin Fizz.
According to UrbanDaddy, "the drink menu is constantly in flux." For booze hounds eager to see what Fletcher's shaking up inside the hidden-away bar, "walk into the restaurant to inquire. The staff will point you in the right direction, and a walk down a long hallway later, there you are."
Atwater Alley is open 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
