Hippie-leaning pizzeria Mellow Mushroom is coming this way. Yesterday the official Instagram for Henderson Avenue revealed the pizza chain is moving in with a target date of late spring or early summer 2016:
According to REBusiness Online, the restaurant will be located at 2326 N. Henderson Ave., an old house that was previously home to the ill-fated tequila drinkers' haven Hacienda on Henderson. (Hacienda unexpectedly closed in February 2014; prior to that, it was home to beloved Mexican restaurant Cuquita's.)
Specialty pizzas have names like Kosmic Karma, Magical Mystery Tour, and Thai Dye, with toppings such as curry chicken with sweet chili sauce or shrimp and andouille sausage with spicy blue cheese sauce. Expect plenty of vegan options including vegan cheese, as well as a gluten-free crust. Every location also features local craft beers. The chain is also eco-friendly, boasting that its recycled pizza boxes have a negative carbon footprint.
Mellow Mushroom was founded in 1974 in Atlanta and now has more than 150 franchises across the U.S.; there are several outposts in DFW including Fort Worth, Denton, and Rockwall, but this will be the first restaurant in Dallas proper. Henderson is of course already home to ever-popular Fireside Pies, and the folks behind burger chain Mooyah are also bringing a new concept called Pie Tap to the neighborhood.
