A Hawaiian burger chain has washed ashore in DFW: Teddy's Bigger Burgers is now open in the affluent 'burb of Colleyville. Teddy's has a dozen locations in Hawaii and several more spread across the western U.S., as well as outposts in Thailand, the Phillippines, and Japan.
What, precisely, makes these burgers island-style? Most of the toppings aren't unlike what you'd find at other area burger joints — cheese, bacon, avocado, et al — but there is a Hawaiian burger with teriyaki and grilled pineapple. Any burger can also be topped with furikake, which is a flavorful Japanese seasoning typically containing bonito (dried fish flakes), sesame seeds, and nori. Other menu items of note include a grilled salmon burger, Nutella milkshakes, and "umami fries" topped with garlic butter, furikake, and sriracha aioli.
Teddy's isn't the first popular Hawaiian chain to hit DFW: Fish taco specialist Coconut's Fish Cafe opened its first Texas outpost on Lovers Lane late last year. Teddy's is open 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily; scope out the menu below.
