El Fenix's more sophisticated sibling Meso Maya is expanding to downtown Fort Worth. The restaurant will open inside Main Street's historic Kress building — which also houses residential lofts — near Sundance Square sometime in the first half of 2016.

Opening right along with it is a new concept for Firebird Restaurant Group: Called Tortaco, it will serve — wait for it — tortas and tacos. It will be located at 2829 Morton Street, within the confines of the trendy, restaurant-saturated West 7th district. A press release offers only a vague description of the concept: There will be "a chef-driven menu" by Meso Maya executive chef Nico Sanchez, as well as "a full bar with signature cocktails." CultureMap's Teresa Gubbins first broke the news on Tortaco on Thursday.

Firebird is also preparing to open a third location of its street taco concept, Taqueria La Ventana, at the Dallas Farmers Market later this fall.
