Henderson Avenue's got a new watering hole: The Skellig, now open in the former J. Black's space near Capitol Pub. It's brought to you by Feargal McKinney, who knows a thing or two about pubs: He's also behind perennial drinking favorites The Old Monk, Idle Rich, and Blackfriar Pub.
As is typical with McKinney's establishments, the menu offers a somewhat elevated take on bar food: Think housemade bacon potato chips, gin-cured salmon with pickled fennel, and a crispy duck leg served with colcannon (a traditional Irish dish of mashed potatoes and cabbage).
As far as beverages go, expect nearly two dozen draft offerings, from Austin Eastciders and Revolver Blood & Honey to Stella Artois and Guinness; there's also a cask of Deep Ellum Brewing Company's Oak Cliff Coffee Ale that's being aged with rum-soaked cinnamon sticks. There's a list of nine-to-ten-dollar cocktails, too, with selections like a cold-brewed Irish coffee and a pineapple mezcal smash.
The Skellig opens at 3 p.m. on weekdays, noon on weekends. Scope out the food and drink menus (and details on happy hour), below:
