Today brings the announcement of the 2015 James Beard Award semifinalists for restaurants and chefs — that is, the lengthy list of nominees that will be narrowed down to a much shorter list of finalists next month.
This year brings major news for Stephan Pyles. He's listed in the overall Outstanding Chef category, while San Salvaje made the Best New Restaurant list. In the Outstanding Chef: Southwest category, four Dallas chefs made the list: Casa Rubia's Omar Flores, Matt McCallister of FT33, Lucia's David Uygur, and John Tesar at Knife. Meanwhile, James Tidwell of the Four Seasons in Las Colinas made the list for Outstanding Wine, Beer, or Spirits Professional.
This list of semifinalists looks awfully similar to last year, when semifinalists from Dallas included Matt McCallister, David, Uygur, and John Tesar for Outstanding Chef: Southwest and Casa Rubia for Best New Restaurant; unfortunately none made it to the finalist stage. Perhaps this will be the year?
