An Arkansas-born fast-casual chain by the clever name of Slim Chickens is coming this way. According to the Dallas Business Journal, the restaurant has plans to open not one but five locations in DFW. The first will be located in Fort Worth and is slated to open in June; further locations are being considered for Dallas, Collin, and Denton counties.
The Slim Chickens menu revolves around chicken tenders — hand-breaded, mind you — and wings, typically served up in a combo meal with fries, Texas toast, and a variety of dipping sauces including cayenne ranch, gravy, blue cheese, and the mysterious "Slim Sauce." The menu also includes fried pickles, fried mushrooms, and fried okra (see a theme here?), as well as other tenets of the stereotypical Southern diet including cole slaw, mac and cheese, desserts served in Mason jars, and sweet tea. According to the DBJ, they'll also serve fried chicken with Texas-shaped waffles.
