Just in case you needed further proof of the rapid re-gentrification of Deep Ellum: A recently-shuttered head shop on Main Street (RIP, Deep End) is being succeeded by a coffee shop.
Per the TABC application notice posted in the window, Lead Belly Coffee will be providing both booze and late-night hours. (SideDish says it's "named after iconic American folk and blues musician, Huddie William Ledbetter or 'Lead Belly,'" which makes sense given Deep Ellum's storied history as a mecca for jazz and blues). It's about time the burgeoning neighborhood got a new, more conveniently located caffeination station: It's currently home to just two, Mokah and Murray Street Coffee, both of which are located slightly off the main drags.
Per owner Toby Wright, more details on Lead Belly will be revealed soon; in the meantime, feel free to wildly speculate.
(Hat tip to man-about-town Jon Daniel, who Instagrammed the TABC application over the weekend.)
