It's no longer sufficient for bars to set out a bowl of stale pretzels — if they want to keep customers coming back (and ordering drinks), they've got to have some good food. As such, Lemmon Avenue's "new age dive bar" The Ivy Tavern — which will celebrate its first birthday in June — is bringing in some new kitchen talent: chef Andrew Kelley, whose resume includes stints at Dallas's legendary Zodiac Room, as well as frat boy taco spot Torchy's and some fancy Chicago hotels including the Ritz-Carlton. (A press release brags that Kelley's cooked for "four U.S. presidents, Oprah Winfrey, Hulk Hogan, The Rock and Bono.")
Is Hulk Hogan a fan of brisket-stuffed onion rings or teriyaki chicken pita pizza? Who knows. At any rate, those are two items featured on The Ivy's Greek-influenced menu, which also includes housemade hummus, gyros, and feta- and tzatziki-topped "Greek fries." Oh, and if you find yourself lusting over a particular State Fair food that's only available three weeks out of the year, the Ivy's got that too (hint: it's one of the healthier items found at the Fair).
